dance: frozen mommy

EMPAC

“Frozen Mommy” by Tere O’Connor Dance

Come experience the dark humor and dancing tangents of “Frozen
Mommy”, a live performance work by the contemporary dance theater
company Tere O’Connor Dance.

Friday, February 9 and Saturday, February 10, 2007 @ 8 pm
WMHT Studio, Rensselaer Technology Park, Troy, NY

Devoid of theatrical spectacle or hidden narrative, five dancers
inhabit a bare stage. They deftly lead the viewer on an elliptical
journey, and throw together snippets, dances, words, and elements of
great disparity, all in close proximity. Imitating the magpie
strategies of thought and memory, the dancers' actions accumulate and
combine over the course of the work, creating a funny, disturbing and
strangely familiar vision.

Tickets:
- $15 general admission
- $5 students and seniors with ID
- FREE with RPI ID

Reservations recommended. Parking available at WMHT. A free shuttle
bus will be available from Rensselaer campus and is by reservation only.

Tere O'Connor Dance

Tere O’Connor Dance is a favorite of the New York downtown
contemporary dance scene, upending conventions and creating stage
works which are richly textured, perplexingly beautiful, often
steeped in biting, deadpan humor. Tere O’Connor has been making
dances since 1982 and has created over thirty works for his company.
The company has performed throughout the US and in Europe, South
America and Canada. “Frozen Mommy” premiered to critical acclaim at
The Kitchen in New York City in December 2004, and won a New York
Dance and Performance "Bessie" Award for Best Performance in 2005.

The running time for the piece is 60 minutes.

Cash only at the door. We regret we cannot yet accept checks or
credit cards.
